You may have read a recent Bloomberg report citing the possible presence of chips installed by Chinese manufacturers on motherboards used in Super Micro servers. The report claims that these chips could be used to compromise data and allow China to spy on companies with these chips inside their datacenters.
To date, Super Micro is refuting the claims from the Bloomberg report saying that they have yet to find any malicious chips or to receive reports of customers finding any chips of that nature. Other companies mentioned in the report include Amazon and Apple who also deny having any related issues with the servers in question. Homeland Security issued a similar statement on Saturday, October 6th echoing Amazon and Apple’s sentiments that there are no known issues with the servers.
